Floor
We insulated the van floor with 1/2″ RMAX and Pergo FloorMate Underlayment in addition to a layer of OSB and Luxury Vinyl Planking as seen in Flooring. Under the front rubber floor mats we added a layer of EZ-Cool.
Walls
The walls are entirely insulated with Havelock sheep’s wool. The 2″ wool batts were fantastic to work with and with excess we were able to double up in some areas. We used twine to keep all of the wool batts in place before installing the walls.

Ceiling
The ceiling is a combination of wool, EZ-Cool, and cork. Once again, we tucked the wool batts into twine before mounting the cedar planking. The front headliner has a layer of EZ-Cool, wool, and 1/4″ cork mounted to hardboard.

Windows
We teamed up with XPLR Outfitters for our window insulation. They made wonderful custom window coverings for our front and side windows. They fold up, snap to the frame magnetically, and are extremely durable. We use them everyday, hot or cold. Check out our blog post for more info on XPLR Outfitters.
The windshield and rear windows are insulated with custom cut rolls of Reflectix.

This explains the importance of assessing climate and wall structure before adding cavity insulation. Wall Insulation can improve comfort and efficiency, but only when moisture control and proper installation are considered. Careful evaluation helps avoid damp and long-term damage.
