Insulation & Subfloor
After getting the van clean we were able to use Liquid Nails to adhere a layer of 1/2″ RMAX insulation. On top of the insulation we used Liquid Nails again for a layer of 7/16″ Oriented Strand Board in order to create a sturdy, level subfloor.
Underlayment & Vinyl
We ended up deciding on waterproof Luxury Vinyl with a Pergo Underlayment. After organizing which planks would be visible and showing off our favorites, we used a Tapping Block to bring each row together securely.
Hey guys, love the simple elegance of your build. One question- I see a lot of folks cutting out strips of r-max to fit in between the ribs of the floor before adding the full sheets as you did. Any thoughts as to why you didn’t bother with the strips in between the floor ribs? I would like to avoid the process of cutting all those strips unless there is a clear benefit.
Thanks!
Thank you! We had also seen that and decided it wasn’t enough of a benefit for the work necessary. Some vans have larger ribs so it would help prevent any sagging in the flooring. Otherwise, the RMAX sheets are plenty enough insulation as is.
